Releases Adequate Yearly Progress Scores for Jackson Madison County
Schools Most of the news is good for JMCS. 24 of our 28 schools passed ALL sub-groups and are in good standing with the No Child Left Behind federal policy. In a press conference, Superintendent Dr. Nancy Zambito praised the administrators, teachers, and students for the hard work in achieving their goals. Four schools that were on the target list have made substantive progress and are now in good standing. Those schools are Alexander Elementary, Bemis Intermediate, North Parkway Elementary, and Rose Hill Middle School. Andrew Jackson and Jackson Careers and Technology Magnet intermediate schools did not meet Adequate Yearly Progress this year each in one sub group and are now on the target list. Liberty High School and Jackson Central Merry High School passed all of their sub groups but did not meet 05-06 graduation rates. The graduation rates coupled with several years of low test scores have caused JCM to be in the status of corrective action. One of those actions is to now offer parents schools choice for their children. Letters have already been mailed to parents or guardians of JCM students, and the letters should be received today. Alternative schools choices are Northside and Southside High Schools. Letters include a transfer form. I spoke with Nathan Boyd. (Audio) I also spoke with JCM Principal Virginia Stackens Crump who requested parents to come to JCM and meet with her before withdrawing their child. These are her comments. A copy of the letter to parents, the transfer request form and FAQ are below:
