Police Seek Man’s Identity in Burglary / Assault

The Jackson Police Department is investigating a burglary and assault on “D” Street in Bemis that occurred about 5:00 a.m. this morning. A Jackson woman had gotten off work at Wal Mart Super Center South and driven home when a man forced his way into the house and attempted to sexually assault the woman. He fled when she resisted.

The suspect had spoken to the woman before she left work. At that time he was very suggestive and persistent in his attempts to talk to her. He apparently followed her to her residence. Then, he followed her inside before she could secure the door.

The suspect and his vehicle were captured on videotape at Wal Mart. The Jackson Police Department has been working with Wal Mart’s Security to obtain photographs of the suspect.

The suspect is a black male who appeared young – possibly 20’s. He is about 5’9" - 5'11" tall. He is medium built – about 170-180 pounds and described as medium complexioned. He has short hair. He does not have noticeable facial hair. He is described as having “big teeth” with a gap on right side (possibly a missing tooth). He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

The suspect was in a white four door sedan – possibly a Kia Spectra or similar size / style vehicle.

Anyone who has information should contact the Violent Crimes Unit at the Jackson Police Department at 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 424-8477.
